Welcome to the Children's Railway

This Sunday, April 26, you can go on an adventurous ride on the first steam historical train through the Čermeľ Valley. This year it will be 70 years since the completion of the entire line to the final station Alpinka, as we know it today. During the first three rides, you can look forward to a surprise of the Western Club Košice - an authentic historical train crash.

U. S. Steel Košice has been supporting the operation of the Košice Children's Railway for many years, which is a favorite place for our volunteers during the Metallurgists for Košice event.

The key to the gate to the zoo will be brought by Nixon

The traditional unlocking of the gate of the Košice Zoo will be on May 1 at 11.00 a.m. As usual, the Key to it will arrive with Nixon, a majestic great bald eagle from the Falconry Group of St. Bavon from Banská Štiavnica.

Over the years, U. S. Steel Košice has supported the construction of many breeding facilities: for lynxes, seals, penguins, and most recently three years ago the construction of a modern pavilion for margai. The zoo is also a favorite place for our volunteers during the Metallurgists for Košice event.

On the first of May, the Singing Fountain will wake up

The ceremonial launch of this year's season of the most modern and most beautiful Singing Fountain in Slovakia will start at 8:30 p.m. Come and find out what the fountain has prepared for you in the year of its 40th birthday. The exclusive program will start with dance choreographies that will bring us closer to the ancient atmosphere of the times when the fountain was created to the present day.

The fountain came to life after an extensive reconstruction two years ago and will forever remain associated with metallurgists. Just as the ironworks helped in its construction 40 years ago, the U. S. Steel Košice Foundation contributed 1,000,000 euros to its restoration.

Bonsai exhibition and open day in the Botanical Garden

From 1 to 3 May 2026 from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., an exhibition of bonsai with more than 70 miniature trees will be open to all enthusiasts, supplemented by an interesting accompanying program - demonstrations of tree shaping, consulting activities and a range of aids.

The Botanical Garden of UPJŠ in Košice has also prepared an Open Day and SWAP of plants for visitors  , which will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 9.00 to 17.00. Members of the Cactus Club of Košice and the Citrus Club will also provide consulting activities. It will include SWAP of plants (10.00 - 15.00), i.e. the exchange of various cultivated species.

U. S. Steel Košice also cooperates with the Botanical Garden of UPJŠ. The hands of our volunteers regularly help beautify the premises of this popular place for the inhabitants of Košice during the Metallurgists for Košice event.

Unconventional vessels on the water of the lake on May 2

A water show associated with a competition of non-traditional, self-decorated vessels will take place in the Lake recreation area on Saturday, May 2 from 7:00 p.m.

Thanks to the support of our company, children from two children's homes - the Children's Home in Podolínec and CDR Uralská Košice - also participate in this event. The cover photo shows the vessel of the team from Podolínec from Košice Venice 2025.

Session at Marathon Point and half marathon

A social gathering of friends of Marathon Point and the people of Košice full of surprises on the occasion of the 1st anniversary of the opening of an exceptional space in the historic heart of the city will take place on Wednesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m.

The International Peace Marathon is also associated with another event, the Košice Peace Half Marathon. This year, the track is designed differently than in the past. The sports competition will take place mostly in places and streets that you know intimately from the October MMM. The start will be on Saturday, May 9 at 3:00 p.m. at the Immaculata.

U. S. Steel Košice is the general advertising partner of the International Peace Marathon.

The main day of the celebration is May 7

The Day of the City of Košice will begin on May 7 at 1:30 p.m. with a procession of knights and the ceremonial raising of the city flag, followed by the Presentation of Public Awards to the Mayor of the City of Košice. At 6:00 p.m., the Solemn Holy Mass will begin with petitions and prayers for the city of Košice in the Cathedral of St. Elizabeth.

At 8:00 p.m., the Gala Concert of the Day of the City of Košice will begin in front of the historic building of the National Theater and the Singing Fountain, featuring the music group The Backwards and the Outbreak & Whos ́that kidz Dance School.

The Day of the City of Košice is celebrated in honor of a historical event from 1369, when King Louis the Great granted Košice as the first city in Europe a coat of arms. This important act strengthened the position of the city. In the Middle Ages, the granting of a coat of arms was an act of extraordinary trust and recognition on the part of the monarch. Košice was the first city to receive a coat of arms charter.
