Košice, May 20, 2025 – During the upcoming Friday and Saturday, U. S. Steel Košice employees will once again selflessly help several local organizations. The 19th year of volunteer days Steelmakers for Košice will take place on May 23 and 24, 2025, and employees of individual institutions will also participate in selected activities.
The event will traditionally start with the Steelmakers Drop of Blood on Friday morning in the Hematology and Transfusion Department of the AGEL Košice - Šaca Hospital in the U. S. Steel Entrance Area, where they are ready to smoothly handle more than 80 blood donors.
On Saturday morning, volunteers will help six local organizations. At the Košice Zoo, they will repaint the fences of the animal enclosures and build the tents for a summer camp. On the Košice Children's railway, they will maintain the tracks and improve the surroundings of the Čermeľ and Alpinka stations. They will help the non-profit organization Klub Forrest Gump, which operates a day care center for the disabled, by working on the interior and exterior. Volunteers will also beautify the grounds of the UPJŠ Botanical Garden and Center for Children and Families on Hurbanová Street, where they will sand and treat wooden buildings and metal structures, plant plants, and restore park paths. They will also improve the grounds of the animal shelter near Haniska with the help of the HC Košice ice-hockey team members.
„It is important that our company contributes to the region, but the greatest value is brought by individuals who devote their time, effort and work to a good cause. I am proud that there are so many of them among the steelmakers,” said Deputy President of U. S. Steel Košice Mike Piekut.
On Friday and Saturday, steelmakers and residents of the city can donate women's and men's seasonal clothing and shoes, especially T-shirts, shorts, sweatshirts, sweatpants or sneakers. The Archdiocesan Charity Košice will distribute them to its facilities. They will also welcome long shelf-life food, bedding, kitchen utensils and hygiene supplies. The collection point will be open on Friday from 12 to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center of the Archdiocesan Charity at Masarykova 19 (historical building), as well as at Trieda SNP 24 in the civic association Jeseň života, where retired steelmakers help with the collection.
