Who was helped by lentil soup

In mid-November, the city of Košice organized the cooking of the "soup of the poor" for the fifth time. It was on the occasion of the proclamation of St. Elizabeth of Hungary as the patron saint of Košice.

Lentil soup could be tasted by the people of Košice and visitors to the city for a minimum contribution of 2 euros, but of course, they also contributed a higher amount.

The event was also supported by U. S. Steel Košice.

A total of 3,600 euros was collected, which is 20 percent more than in the previous year.

Representatives of the city handed over the proceeds of this collection yesterday.

Half of the money raised will help the Society of Friends of Children from Children's Homes Úsmev jako dar and the other half to the DEDO Foundation. The first organization supports children and young people in centers for children and families (CDR), helps young people after leaving CDR as well as families in difficult life situations. It builds centers to help families in need and affordable, social, rental housing.

The head of the Smile as a Gift for Eastern Slovakia  branch, Rado Dráb, emphasized at the meeting that both organizations will use the proceeds from this charity event to maintain and improve the conditions of social rental housing, which they provide in cooperation with the city of Košice. He pointed out that the soup also satiated the clients of several charitable organizations.

"We are pleased that the city has decided to directly support two non-profit organizations that are dedicated to the housing first project and the consequences of the loss of housing. Every euro will come in handy, as we are currently expanding the capacities of social rental housing. The idea of this charity collection is an excellent thing," he  said at yesterday's cheque handover ceremony.

Vice President Miroslav Kiraľvarga (pictured) reminded at the event that in addition to this event, our employees donate hundreds of meals to homeless people every year in cooperation with the non-profit organization OÁZA - Hope for a New Life.
