On Saturday, June 22, the team of steelmakers - volunteers gathered at theKošice Children's Historical Railway in Čermel to improve this place once again. The Košice Children's Historical Railway has grown to the hearts of many over the years. As every year, members of the civic association Košice Children's Historical Railway were also helpful to them.
Although the weather forecast predicted rain from early morning, the weather lasted until the end of the work. Thanks to the skillful hands of our colleagues, it was also possible to finish the work planned for the case of rainy weather.
At the station in Čermel, Eva Hunyadiová with her daughter Veronika, Jana Hoffmannová with her son Ján, Andrea Mačejová and Kamil Jakubčák started painting the metal container. Roman Fedák, Marián Kušnirák, and Pavol Králik - an expert in interior painting, took care of the painting work in the building's interior under the leadership of Zuzana Lehotská from Children's Historical Railway. Eduard Kandík and Miroslav Feťko, a well - coordinated couple, took up the maintenance of the locomotives at the depot.
Men's hands and strength were also needed on the railway track when cleaning from overgrown trees and driftwood. František Klimo, Pavel Babej, Ľuboš Sova with his son Adam, Jozef Mlynarič and Igor Molnár together with Marián Bonko from Children's Historical Railway worked up a sweat during the hard work.
The largest group of volunteers worked at Alpinka station under the leadership of Peter Kočišek. There was more than enough work, from installing the fence around the children's playground, which was improved by steelmakers last year, to planting a hedge, painting the railing and maintaining the area.
The men's team consisting of Marcel Novosad, Róbert Jeník, Norbert Mihalik, Michal Tančák and Pavol Petráš embarked on more physically demanding work. The women - Michaela and Monika Moravanské, Zita Hromotová, Monika Jeníková and Alica Ridzoňová took care of painting the railing and planting the fence, together with Igor Ridzoň, who took care of removing the rust and preparing the fence for painting. The result of their work is once again a slightly more beautiful area of the Alpinka station, which will serve all visitors to this popular location in Košice.
In the end, Vice President for Production Marcel Novosad thanked all the participants: "The capacity of the number of volunteers for the Children's Railway was filled almost immediately, which proves that we are already a close - knit group that likes to come back here every year. I thank everyone who joined us and helped, and I believe that we will gather at the railway in large numbers in a year again."
Peter Kočiško also thanked the steelmakers on behalf of the entire team of the Children's Railway: "Without the help of volunteers from the U. S. Steel Košice, the railway would not look the way it does today. You have done a great deal of excellent work over the years.“
A big thank you goes to all our colleagues - volunteers, who give their time, energy and also their hearts to Children's Railway year by year.
See you next year. Let the steam push it!
