Last week U. S. Steel Košice underwent a recertification audit of its environmental management system in line with the requirements of the ISO 14001:2004 standard certification scheme. At the concluding meeting last Friday, October 23, the auditors from the TÜV SÜD Slovakia certification company stated that the environmental management system at U. S. Steel Košice displays signs of continuous improvement in the effectiveness of its processes, so nothing stands in the way of the Company gaining a further extension of the validity of its EMS certificate covering the next three years. The auditors appreciated the fact, terming it a significant strong point for the Company, that during the past eight years there has not been a single incident in the ecological field at U. S. Steel Košice. This has been achieved thanks in very great measure to the education and training system introduced here. As auditing team leader Pavol Horník commented, U. S. Steel Košice is one of the few firms in Slovakia fulfilling all its commitments in terms of environmental investments, BAT projects, and emissions quotas and limits, even in spite of the situation on the steel market.
