KSR CHIEF EXECUTIVE ZDENKO TREBULA VISITS USSK
On Wednesday of last week, October 7th, U. S. Steel Kosice was visited by Kosice Self-governing Region (KSR) Chief Executive Zdenko Trebula. He was welcomed by USSK President George F. Babcoke, who informed him about the situation on the steel market and with employment in the Company. Then together with USSK Vice President Management Services and Miroslav Kiralvarga, he also looked round USSK's modernized electricity input substation. On the very day of Mr. Trebula's visit, the first of the two new 250 MVA transformers was connected up to the 400 kV SEPS distribution network.
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TECHNICAL DIAGNOSTICS
On October 8th and 9th, under the auspices of SR Minister for Trade and Industry Lubomir Jahnatek, the 12th edition of the annual international scientific conference entitled DIS - Theory and Application of Technical Diagnostics Methods took place in Kosice. The general sponsor of this event, which was prepared by the Department of Safety and Production Quality at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Technical University Kosice, was U. S. Steel Kosice, as the Company is interested in actively joining in discussions about practical experience and scientific insights in the field of technical diagnostics. Around 80 participants from Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland and Hungary, specialists in machine diagnostics and maintenance, discussed issues of common procedures in the area of maintenance, diagnostics and tribotechnology for a more efficiently-run company.
LADISLAV ROZEK IS NEW CHAIRMAN OF ASTL COUNCIL
Ladislav Rozek, Director of U. S. Steel Kosice subsidiary Labortest, s.r.o., has been elected the new Chairman of the Council of the Association of Slovakian Testing Laboratories (ASTL). The ASTL is an interest group representing private and public companies, universities and colleges, research institutes and other organizations for which materials testing is the principal or one of the principal activities. The ASTL Council is authorized to issue certificates granting the right to use the stamp of a testing laboratory registered with the Association, which is qualified to provide specialist services complying with EN standards currently in force.
