Blast furnace employees active in costs-saving
For several years now the costs-saving team at the Blast Furnaces Division has been one of the best and most active at U. S. Steel Kosice. This year's project from their workshop - Saving on Purchased Coke - is also proving outstandingly successful. In the first eight months of this year it has ranked clearly among the best, bringing the Company its greatest savings. The team currently has five active projects, and a sixth is being prepared. The trend is towards making much more use of secondary raw materials, substituting them for the purchased materials, which are often very expensive.
Four divisions merge to form two
October 1st brought with it organizational changes in the sections of GM Finishing and GM Production Support. These changes are associated with the Flat and Efficient Organization project at U. S. Steel Kosice. In the Finishing section, two divisions - Color Coating and the Tin Mill - were merged into one new division which will be known as the Color-coating and Tin-mill Division. A similar change took place in the Production Support section, where the Repairs and the Servicing divisions were merged. The new unit here will function as the Maintenance Division.
Two records broken on the Peace Marathon course in Kosice
On Sunday, October 4th, the 86th annual edition of the international Peace Marathon was held in Kosice, and two records were broken at a stroke - not only was a new
women's course record set by Olena Burkovska from Ukraine with a time of 2h30m50s, but there was a new participation record as well, when for the first time in history of the Kosice Marathon the
number of participants exceeded the five thousand mark.
The total starting line-up for the full and half marathons, the inline skaters' race and the other events for individuals and teams came to 5074 endurance runners
from 38 countries around the world. U. S. Steel Kosice was also well-represented in the brightly-colored peloton, whether in the Marathon itself, the half-marathon, the inline skaters'
race or the mini-marathon. In the Marathon Imrich Pastor finished in 10th place in a time of 2h28m35s, thus winning himself his third title of Marathon Champion of Slovakia in a row.
Discussions on automotive sheets
Five years on, the Jahodna ski center near Kosice is set once again to be the venue for a session of the members of the Steel Strip Society. From October 12th to 14th participants will be meeting there for the 66th specialist seminar on the topic of Galvanized Material for the Automotive Industry. This event is being organized by U. S. Steel Kosice in cooperation with the Steel Strip Society.
