They "put out a fire" in the main building
Kosice, May 3rd, 2006 - 83 eliminated fires, 2738 rescue operations to save lives and property, and property worth more than 44 million crowns saved - this
is the score of U. S. Steel Kosice Company fire squad for the latest five years.
Professional knowledge, good physical condition, discipline and valor are undoubtedly seen as the qualities of a firefighter. Almost one hundred brave men in blue
uniforms engaged at the Kosice steelworks are celebrating their 45th Anniversary these days. They started to make history in the year 1961 when the first fire squad was formed at the East
Slovakian Ironworks. As the factory grew and expanded its operations, this fire squad transformed into a corporate fire safety division named Ferrohas. In the year 2001 this division obtained a
quality certificate under the standard STN EN ISO 9001:2000 as the first fire brigade. In the year 2000, the company built the first Slovakian emergency object system with intention to offer a
comprehensive solution for potential emergencies. The 24-hour emergency rescue service, special climbing rescue team and building fire safety group was a part of it. The chief mission of this
system was to completely protect lives and health of employees and U. S. Steel Kosice, s.r.o. property.
The permanent central fire safety and technological management of particular company sections along with regular trainings have continually been cutting back on
number of fires. In the latest years it was at the lowest level in the history of the metallurgical company. Whereas in nineties it was 25 fires a year, last year firemen eliminated only 13 ones.
"The firemen have been attaining minimal damages thanks to continual professional and demanding physical training," said Jan Jeno, the commander of the corporate
fire squad.
On the occasion of the 45th Anniversary, the firemen team will offer an attractive demonstration of the fire fighting on the tall administration
building of U. S. Steel Kosice Company , where we are cordially inviting you. The fire drill associated with a presentation of fire safety technology will be held on
