What will the Ludvikov Dvor crossway look like?

The Ludvikov Dvor (Ludvikov Court) crossway will be part of the R2 Saca – Kosicke Olsany expressway with a length of 24 km and will be part of the superior transport infrastructure after commissioning and, together with the D1 motorway, will form the south-eastern bypass of the city of Kosice.

Due to the time preparation and the overall scope of the construction, the Saca – Kosicke Olsany expressway with a length of 24 km was divided into two stages, or two sections: Section I Saca – Haniska with a length of 6.8 km and Section II Kosice (South) – Kosicke Olsany with a length of 14.2 km.

The National Motorway Company is currently building the second section Kosice (South) – Kosicke Olsany, to which the first section Kosice (Saca) – Haniska will be connected. The construction of this almost 7-kilometer continuation of the R2 route is planned to start a public tender this year. He estimates that the construction will cost just over 140 million euros. The new section will be connected to the currently built part of the R2 Kosice, Saca – Kosicke Olsany, Section II. A zoning decision has already been issued for this section, documentation for a building permit has been delivered and the construction is almost completely settled in terms of property and legal settlement. Financial coverage is also provided for the construction in the updated government-approved road infrastructure schedule.

An important part of this part of the R2 expressway is the above-level crossway Ludvikov Dvor, which will be important especially in terms of future transport to and from U. S. Steel Kosice.

The Ludvikov Dvor interchange is designed as a formation crossway, within which the R2 expressway is connected to the original I/16 road in the section Ludvikov Dvor – Red Crawfish (Cerveny rak). At the same time, the road III/3401 ("Hanistianska" road) is connected to this crossway, from which the area of the U. S. Steel Kosice industrial zone in its northern part, where the freight gates of our company are located, is accessible. In order to save costs, the National Motorway Company has decided on a simpler technical solution to solve this intersection. The result is an expected financial saving of 20 million euros, while the tram line and the current overpass will not need to be relocated. Therefore, this solution will not affect travel by public transport (buses and trams) or car transport.
