Transformation of maintenance at the Košice steelworks is advancing successfully. The course of the project was presented in detail by members of the transformation team to United States Steel Corporation President and CEO David B. Burritt at a meeting during his working visit to U. S. Steel Košice last Monday, December 9.

“We discussed the whole process of maintenance transformation from its beginnings in May of this year right up to the present time, about the initial teething troubles which we successfully overcame, and then about the financial benefits for our business,” says GM Maintenance Transformation and Production Support Peter Gazsi. At the meeting he accepted the S.T.E.E.L. Champion award from the President on behalf of the team. “This award is both a pleasure and motivation for us,” he went on. “It encourages us to go on doing everything in our power to see the transformation of maintenance in our factory through to its successful conclusion. I have to say that every one of our maintenance staff contributing to the progress of this transformation must see something of themselves in this award.”
