May 18, 2004, Kosice - Representatives of U. S. Steel Kosice, s.r.o. and Dubnicke Opal Mines Foundation have agreed to start a mutual project.
During this summer they will establish a summer camp of opal miners for the Roma children aged between 12 to 16 years.
The summer working camp will have 10 turns. Six of them will be for more then 60 Roma children from Lunik IX and Velka Ida. The other four turns just like the past
years will be for young people from the surrounding of the mines. Starting from July 3, till Sept 15, they will be involved in the protection of the unique Opal Mines and building the local
Museum and Open Air Museum. The purpose of the Summer Camp is to establish a positive relationship with cultural and natural values.
