They said goodbye to the holidays in style

On the last Friday before the start of the new school year, it was hot in Športovo - entertainment complex on Alejová Street. It has become a tradition that during the holidays we organize a rich sports and entertainment program for children from orphanages and families from our project We are with you at the right time.

Children from the Children's Home of St. Klement Hofbauer in Podolínec and the Center for Children and Families Košice - Uralská. Likewise, the families of our colleagues who found themselves in a difficult life situation from the project We are with you at the right time: the family of Veliky, Azario, Szilágyi and Vagaš.

They were welcomed by the vice-presidents of U.S. Steel Košice Silvia Gaálová and Elena Petrášková and the director of Public Affairs Ján Bača. And the endless fun began. Children ran around on bouncy castles, an inflatable playground or a slide, and cooled off while boating in inflatable pools.

Face painting, making badges, and wiring were a great success. At seven stations, tasks focused on coordination, speed, accuracy, balance and strength awaited the children. They got a sweet reward for defeating them. Not even well-adjusted educators with a professional mother from Podolínec could resist the positions, they passed them all. They say "anything for candy". The fact that children like them was proven by the number of creative badges that decorated their T-shirts.

The young footballers from Podolínec didn't even get in the way of the heat and ran around on the football field, tempting even their teachers.

And what did the children like the most? Mishke fire and science experiments performed by animators. Erik's bouncy castles, Emka's wiring. She wants to give the wire ornament she made to her brother.

Sofinka from the Azario family was fascinated by badges - she made a decent collection. Her brother Peťko showed a sense of rhythm, preferring disco dancing to a stroller. Their parents also took a break, as they revealed, it was a nice change from the usual days and relaxation for dad after long shifts at the steel mill.

Football talents Kristián and Aďo appreciated the most that they could play football here on the campus, as well as take photos with football players from FC Košice. Yes, we managed to have such an unplanned meeting during lunch in the nearby Košice football arena. When the football players from FC Košice found out who was in the arena, they changed into their jerseys and took pictures with the children just before leaving for the match in Skalica.

The boys from Podolínec are not just football fans, they really are a class in football. This is proven by their third place at the Slovakian Mini-Football Championship for children from centers for children and families in 2023 and 2022. A few of them even represented Slovakia at the World Championship in Warsaw, Poland.

The director of the Podolínec Foster Home, Štefan Straka, awarded an event with the grade: "passed with grade A". Their children had not been to this campus before, it was a new, stimulating environment for them.

His representative, Danka Štefková, added: "The children were looking forward to the fact that it would be a great end to the summer and that they would forget that they were starting school on Monday. It was amazingly timed, the weather was perfect. The educators were also looking forward to the fact that someone else will provide the program for the children and they will be able to enjoy the day a little differently. And the big steaks made the children very happy," she laughed.

Nevermind, Barborka dreamed of pancakes and Riško of steamed buns on the way to lunch. However, the nutritious schnitzel did not disappoint.

Mrs. Frankovičová, a professional mother from CDR Uralská, also shared her impressions: "I also had a rest, it's a nice event, both social and creative, the children didn't get bored and had fun. Just look into their eyes."

Yes, it was seen that they said goodbye to the holidays the best possible way. It can be seen in the photo gallery.
