On November 24, 2015 Mr. Jozef Kollár, President of the Labor Union Confederation (KOZ) of the Slovak Republic, recently elected to the position of Vice President of the European Labor Union Confederation (ETUC), visited U. S. Steel Košice. Together with Mr. Jozef Balica, a member of the KOZ Council and other colleagues, our guest met Mr. Mikuláš Hintoš, Chairman of U. S. Steel Košice KOVO Labor Union Council, and Mr. Juraj Varga, Deputy Chairman of the Labor Union Council. Mr. Kollár was also welcomed by Mr. Scott Buckiso, President of U. S. Steel Košice. Mr. Buckiso informed Mr. Kollár about the current situation in the plant and about the adverse conditions on the steel markets. And despite the existence of different opinions of the management and labor union on certain issues, they are in the same boat when talking about the necessity to do everything to help the steelmaking industry on national and international levels. The President of KOZ SR promised that as the Vice President of ETUC he will present this issue to this body for urgent resolution.
This was the first visit by this top labor union representative to the Košice steelworks, and he was given a plant tour showing operations in the Hot Rolling Mill and Galvanizing Plant.
