Qualifications increase chances for Roma

Kosice, December 13, 2007 - Other Roma participating in the Special Employment Project have had the chance to increase their qualifications in flame-cutting training. The training started on November 7th in cooperation with the Secondary Vocational School for Metallurgy in Kosice-Saca, and was attended by 23 applicants. The best three will become regular employees of one of U. S. Steel Kosice's subsidiary companies. Today Milan Balog from the village of Velka Ida, Tibor Cisar from Kosice city ward Saca and Stanislav Diro from the Lunik IX neighborhood signed employment contracts with Patrik Ivanisin, CEO of Vulkmont, a.s. Kosice.

U. S. Steel Kosice began working with people from disadvantaged groups in 2002. The first contracts were signed with people from the Lunik IX neighborhood and the village Veľká Ida in 2004. Currently, the company gives opportunities to more than 150 persons who work at various company operations through personnel leasing. The best of them are then offered the possibility of becoming regular employees every year.

U. S. Steel Kosice will continue with this project involving employment of people from disadvantaged groups in 2008 as well, said USSK President David Lohr. He stressed the Company's interest in extending the program with more educational activities. "We think that training courses can help us to pick the best participants in the program and thus find more potential employees for U. S. Steel Kosice, but also for other companies which show interest in the program," he said.

The contract-signing ceremony was also attended by Vice-president Human Resources Martin Pitorak, Velka Ida Council Leader Frantisek Snir and Kosice-Saca City Ward Council Leader Rudolf Restei.
