The title of Occupational Safety Champion for the month of March at U. S. Steel Košice was won by Jaroslav Olejár, machine maintenance supervisor for water and technical gas management in the Power Engineering division.

The thanks of the Company management for his personal commitment, many years of work, and unfailing interest in his colleagues’ safety were passed on to him by USSK General Manager Occupational Safety and Hygiene and REACH Mark Salo. Jaroslav Olejár has spent the whole of his professional career since leaving school working at the steelworks. He knows the works very well, so it is no surprise that out of the 281 assignments set last year, based on suggestions submitted by the employees’ representatives in the Power Engineering division and Ferroenergy company, he was personally responsible for implementing 89.

At the same time, these were measures of the most demanding sort with regard to technology, material, time and space. Many of them involved working at height or above sheer drops around the oxygen plant, gas piping network and water management system.
