U. S. Steel Kosice in the Hall of Fame
One of the activities during European Quality Week was an international conference on November 11 with the theme of Quality on the Road to Excellence, held under the auspices of the Office for Normalization, Metrology and Testing Services in Slovakia. Another event was the announcement of results from competitions in the field of quality during 2013, and the inauguration of the winners in their thirteen-year history in the newly-opened Hall of Fame of the Slovakian National Quality Award. Among the almost 30 winning organizations the name of U. S. Steel Kosice appears twice. The Company won this competition in 2002 and 2010.
Meetings with millionaires
In the last few days U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke has had working lunches with representatives of the teams from the Coated Products and Tin Mill and the Cold Rolling Mill divisions, in ordr to acknowledge the results they have achieved in the field of occupational safety. The first of these divisions has achieved two million employee-hours worked without injury and the second has achieved one million hours.
Third gala evening for long-serving employees
Power Engineering, Transport, Mechanics and Maintenance - between them this year these four divisions boast nearly 160 long-serving employees, who all linked their professional lives with the East Slovakian Steelworks several decades ago. Those celebrating thirty, thirty-five, forty and even forty-five years of work were the guests of U. S. Steel Kosice management on Friday, November 8, for the third of this year's gala evenings for long-serving employees in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel.
Steelmakers' talents on display in the House of Art
There is currently an exhibition of artworks in the House of Art in Kosice created by talented steelmakers and professional artists together during this year's seventh edition of the annual painters' plein-air session in Medzev entitled Steelmakers Paint with the Artists. These artworks will be auctioned off during the U. S. Steel Kosice Annual Ball early next year, and the proceeds from the auction will be used to support the Fenestra civic association, which has been dealing for many years with the problems ad prevention of domestic violence and abuse of women and children.
