Kosice/Presov Invest 2011
Presentation of investment opportunities in the region of Eastern Slovakia was the main content of the international conference called Kosice/Presov invest 2011
which took place on October 18 in Kosice. This event was organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in the Slovak Republic (AmCham) in cooperation with the Slovak Agency for Development of
Investments and Commerce (SARIO), and the general sponsor was U. S. Steel Kosice.
The importance of the need and opportunities for foreign investment in Slovakia, and the contribution of AmCham to the development of a healthy business environment
and to the improvement of economic conditions in this country, were the topics of the presentation by the First Vice President of AmCham and President of U. S. Steel Kosice David J.
Rintoul. In his contribution he informed potential investors of the reasons which led U. S. Steel to take the decision to invest in Eastern Slovakia, and in doing so he emphasized that
the investment in Kosice was an example of activity which had turned out very well.
EMS audit with excellent results
The second renewal audit of the implementation of the environmental management system in line with the standard ISO 14 001:2004, which took place from October 12 to
14, produced excellent results for U. S. Steel Kosice. These were confirmed by the team of auditors from the certification company TÜV NORD Slovakia after three days of thorough
checking of processes and activities in the divisional plants and departments of the Company.
The auditors appreciated the year-on-year improvement trend, and chief auditor Pavol Hornik expressed the opinion that U. S. Steel Kosice was one of the
clients of their company which other firms could go to to learn from.
Meetings with long-term employees begin again
Thirty, thirty-five, forty and forty-five years of work at the steelworks are being remembered by 576 employees this year at four gala sessions with management
members of U. S. Steel Kosice. The group with the greatest number of celebrators consists of the "thirty-somethings", that is those who have been linked with the steelworks for three
decades. There are 262 of them. Five years more, thus a total of 35 years of professional career spent with one employer, are recorded by 209 colleagues.
A hundred and three steelmakers are remembering 40 years of belonging to the Company, and an incredible 45 years of service in one firm are being celebrated by two
of our co-workers. The first evening, which was held in the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on October 14 with U. S. Steel Kosice President David J. Rintoul in attendance, was dedicated to
the celebrators from Primary Operations.
Day with a Supervisor
In the 41st week of this year U. S. Steel Kosice started up a new project named "Day with a Supervisor". This project was originally based on proposals from the superviors themselves, indicating that they would welcome closer cooperation with safety technicians. More intensive cooperation can improve the effectivity and rapidity of finding solutions to situations arising from ensuring the safety and protecting the health of employees in the future. Completion and evaluation of this project are planned before the end of this year.
