George Babcoke and other corporation managers visited U. S. Steel Kosice
Last week, George Babcoke, Tony Bridge, Ed Denton, Jeff Dierdorf and Stacey Sneberger traveled to U. S. Steel Kosice for a series of meetings with Dave Rintoul and his team. First, the group toured the blast furnaces, hot strip mill and cold rolling mill with a particular focus on hazard identification and elimination. A town hall meeting with USSK managers followed the tour. The next day during a meeting of all USSK managers, George spent time discussing safety-related initiatives, current market conditions, improving technology to realize cost savings, focusing our efforts on value-added products, and ensuring that our organizational structure is aligned to allow us to have close working relationships with our customers.
Magnetic badges for Finishing division employees
More than 1 300 employees from Coated Products and Tin Mill division and Shipment division, U. S. Steel Kosice were addressed in the letter by GM Finishing Thomas J. Kevin. In the envelope with thankful and motivation letter, each of them found a small present in the form of 28 magnetic badges related to occupational safety. The cause of such present referred to positive OSH performance - the Shipping Division employees had worked without injury for 3 years while those from Tin Mill Division for a year and employees from Coated Products for 10 months without injury; as well as to the efforts to bear on mind the safety programs, rules and practices established at our company.
Employees from Transportation division make the didactic means themselves
It's better to see once than to hear ten times -the employees from Transportation Division said and began to prepare short instruction video-records dealing with mandatory job practices. Today they have ten video-records intended mainly to railroad transportation employees. Short, 3 - 5 minutes taking films will be made also for transportation maintenance and road transport operators.
Summer Stay of university students is at the end
For more than a month and half, total 41 university students have been working at U. S. Steel Kosice in the summer vocational stay. The future engineers, mostly with technical specialization, came to the company to acquire new knowledge and practical skills. Young students appreciate both work and trainings.
Young laborists from Belgium are NKOS guests
USSK laborists associated in the Independent Christian Labor Union of Slovakia (NKOS) welcomed the delegation of partner youth organization ACV-CSC from Belgium on Aug 04, 2011, consisting of 8 members. The group arrived in Kosice within their one-week taking visit of Slovakia. Following the excursion at the steelmaking plant, they met GM Motivation and Relations with Labor Unions Ms. Adriana Mihalova. They discussed the Labor Unions performance, activities and tasks in both countries.
