Support for 12 public-benefit projects in Together For The Region grant program
Twelve projects have won financial support for their implementation in the fourth edition of the annual grant program entitled Together For The Region, sponsored
jointly by U. S. Steel Kosice and the Carpathian Foundation. The selection was made by the evaluating committee at its final session. Then at the official announcement of the results of
the program, which took place on May 25th on USSK premises, the winning organizations were presented with symbolic checks, sharing a total of 27 000 euros.
The Together For The Region program supports community projects which accord with Company values applied to several areas of activity. These are for example
activities promoting the useful spending of leisure time by children and young people, protection of the environment and environmental education, safety in everyday life, protection of cultural
heritage and cross-border cooperation, as well as sport, which also brings together disadvantaged groups of children and adults.
U. S. Steel Kosice Works Fire-fighting Unit is 50 years old
Last Friday, May 27th, the U. S. Steel Kosice Works Fire-fighting Unit celebrated the 50th anniversary of its founding. The employees were joined by USSK President David J. Rintoul, who thanked them for their work and their determination, appreciating the thorough preparation and training courses they undertake, and also for the contribution they make to the reliability of our Company.
Central European Maintenance Forum 2011
The Patria Hotel at Strbske Pleso was the venue on May 31 and June 1 for the 11th annual international science and technology conference named Central European
Maintenance Forum 2011. These events are organized by the Slovakian Maintenance Society, which U. S. Steel Kosice has been an active member of since the Company's establishment in 2000.
Our firm was one of the principal partners for this year's conference, which hosted the best part of 200 participants from Slovakia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden.
During the two days of the event they heard a range of contributions on the latest trends in maintenance. The opening section of the conference featured a
presentation by USSK GM Production Support Jan Petko. He presented maintenance at the Kosice steelworks as the guarantor of technical safety, environmental compliance and reduced energy
requirements. Specialists in technical diagnostics from the Maintenance Division presented the wide-ranging potential of our diagnostics in the area of monitoring mechanical equipment,
determining its condition and predicting its further working life.
Opatovska Rallye - Living at Full Revs
This year's car races for children at the Opatovska Street Combined School in Kosice, which were held on June 2, featured 24 crews of well-known personalities, businesspeople and managers, including several steelmakers of course. One U. S. Steel Kosice employee who took part in the very first edition of what became known as the Opatovska Rallye - Living at Full Revs was Aneta Smikova. Thanks also to the sponsorship from our Company, the Rallye has become a regular and even traditional event.
Blast Furnaces successfully defend their champions' title
The soccer team from the Blast Furnaces Division took the title, silver medals were the prize for the players from Power Engineering, and bronze went to the ambitious Vulkmont squad. That was the finishing order on Tuesday, May 31 in the 2011 U. S. Steel Kosice Soccer Championships. The title match was a repeat of last year's final, also between the Blast Furnaces and Power Engineering, and these same two rival teams met in the 2007 final as well, with the Blast Furnaces team also coming out on top as the victors. For the first time in the history of this soccer championship, the match for third place ended with the bronze medals being happily picked up by the players from Vulkmont.
