Wishing Tree Christmas Charity Concert
The Wishing Tree Christmas Charity Concert, which took place in Kosice State Theater on December 10th this yaer, was the culmination of U. S. Steel
Kosice's year-round charity activity. In the five years of this project's existence the Kosice steelmakers have given beautiful gifts to nearly three thousand children to whom fate has not been
kindest. This year the Company's employees brought pleasure to the children in the Spissky Stiavnik Foster Home and two institutions in Levoca, the Combined Nursery and Elementary Boarding School
for children with impaired vision, and the Secondary Specialist School for students with impaired vision.
In addition to the dreamed-of gifts, the Company also donated sums of 8 500 euros to the foster home and each of the special schools. These financial resources will
be used by the institutions to renovate their premises. There was another generous cash donation of 79 473.12 euros for the Eye Clinic and the Ophthalmology Department at the Louis Pasteur
University Hospital in Kosice, which was the result of the steelmakers' now traditional end-of-year fund-raising, combined with matching sums from U. S. Steel Kosice and the
U. S. Steel Kosice Foundation.
Region's "Heart on Their Sleeve" 2010 award for USSK employees
The civic association called Zabky at the Regional Center for Volunteer Work in Kosice has presented its "Heart on Their Sleeve" 2010 award in the category of group volunteer work to the employees of U. S. Steel Kosice for their active involvement in dealing with problems around Kosice, for their altruistic help for many non-profit organizations, and for the whole series of permanent and regular corporate volunteer activities and events.
USSK has best e-learning courses
Issues of e-learning technologies and their applications were the main theme of the 8th edition of the annual international conference entitled ICETA 2010, which took place recently in Stara Lesna, and which incorporated a competition focusing on e-learning in practice. In the On-line Courses category U. S. Steel Kosice took first place with the the set of e-learning courses it developed in 2008 and 2009. E-learning training on various topics has already been completed by more than 2500 office staff with intranet access at U. S. Steel Kosice. The Company's multimedia training project currently consists of twelve programs.
Top quality managers in 2010
Part of the 7th edition of the national conference on quality entitled Quality Management in Public Administration, which took place in Bratislava in early December, was the announcement of the winners of the competition called Top Quality Managers 2010. In the private sector (category A) the winner was U. S. Steel Kosice Chief Director EMS and Balancing Tibor Hanesz.
