Repairs division - a million hours without injury

In the last few days U. S. Steel Kosice President George F. Babcoke and Vice President Operations Patrick J. Mullarkey had an informal lunch meeting with a group of selected managers from the Repairs Division, whose employees have just achieved a million hours of work without injury. "We have set high standards in this firm in many areas of our activity, and we are pushing our demands higher and higher. That is not only in product quality, but above all in occupational safety. The success you have achieved deserves acknowledgment," the President told his guests. P. J. Mullarkey thanked the whole team of Division employees for their skill and capability, and the quality of their expertise. "The services you provide are of the highest standard," he stated. "But what needs emphasizing in addition is that you carry them out not only in a reliable and qualified way, but also with maximum respect for the rules of occupational safety."

Seminar on education in metallurgy

Tomorrow, September 24th, at the initiative of U. S. Steel Kosice, a seminar is being held on Company premises focussing on issues in education in metallurgy. The participants in this meeting will be discussing further possibilities of cooperation with the Vocational School in Kosice-Saca, the Technical School of Metallurgy and the Railways Vocational School in Kosice, and it will also be attended by representatives of the Faculty of Metallurgy at the Technical University Kosice and the Education Department of the Kosice Self-Governing Region. The seminar's program includes comparison of the current needs of the Company in terms of qualified workers with the curricula of the schools involved, and searching for common solutions.

Steelmakers contribute to new sportsground

In the Kosice city ward of Polov last weekend a new multi-purpose sportsground was officially opened for use. The sports that can be played here are basketball, tennis and football-tennis. The construction of this sportsground, which has proceeded in Polov over the last eighteen months, has been funded from various sources, including a contribution in line with the principles of corporate social responsibility from U. S. Steel Kosice.
