New monthly shipping record

In September 2007 USSK beat the previous shipping record from March 2007 by 12 290 tons of flat rolled products. The average shift output high of April 2007 was also exceeded by 334 tons. Credit for these outstanding results goes to all the employees of the Shipping Division.

Modernization will make production more ecological

Power Division's boiler no. 1, which uses surplus metallurgical gases to produce heat energy, is to be joined during the course of this and next year by two more boilers. More ecological production will be made possible by modernization and general overhaul of coal-fired boilers nos. 2 and 3. Construction modifications to boiler no. 2 began in July of this year, and at the beginning of next year boiler no. 3 will be undergoing the same overhaul. These boilers will then be supplied with surplus cokery, blast furnace and convertor gases. Converting these boilers to gas burning will bring savings in high-grade coal, used as fuel in coal-fired boilers, and reduce the amount of emissions into the atmosphere.

Moon Ride festival of contemporary art

On Friday, September 14th, a festival of contemporary art began in Kosice. The opening of this event called Moon Ride, presenting music, theater, dance, multimedia and visuals by artists of the V4 countries, took place on the premises of the former army barracks stores on Kukucinova Street. Top-quality performers and artists from the Slovak, Czech, Polish and Hungarian alternative and non-commercial arts scene, better known and in greater demand in Western Europe than at home, have been performing for Kosice audiences in the days since then. This event, supporting Kosice's candidacy for the title of European Capital of Culture, has been prepared by the IC Culture Train contemporary arts center, which has been active in Kosice for more than a year now.
