Safety during the 1st half of the year 2007
A half of the year is a period for reviewing a safe work. During previous six months the best results were achieved at Repairs Division Plant and the Plant Fire Department as well. They achieved zero injury. Power Plant also achieved good results, as they had just one treatment there. Outstanding result was obtained by Mechanics Division besides the fact that they recorded one registered injury. They reached 2 million hours without any injury. Only few days were missing to achieve two years of work without any injury. Acknowledgement belongs to the whole team. Due to the results obtained in the safety area we reached one of the top ranking within U. S. Steel Corporation.
Power engineers coped with heat
Last week hot weather exhausted everybody. Temperature records measured in Slovakia were overcome day by day but life had to move up and production in the steelmaking plant couldn´t "draw vacation". Power Engineering Division is considered the company heart regardless hot weather - finishing and service plants required enough power, water and other energy utilities. Director of Power Engineer Division Jan Petko said to Ocel Vychodu that the power engineers had mastered supplies of utilities to USSK production and service plants regardless extreme heat.
Safety control on USSK roads
Within prevention from undesirable events occurrence, attention of section GM Safety will soon be paid to observance of traffic rules in territory of U. S. Steel Kosice - mainly observance of speed limit, use of safety belts by all passengers, stop on traffic signs. Attention paid by safety technicians will not exclude cyclists both on roads and in production halls.
Dreams and Teams
Last days, Gramary School (gymnazium) Alejova hosted a group of English people from partner school Ashington Sports College, whom they cooperate with on international project Dreams and Teams. Main goal of the meeting referred to organization of round 10th and 2nd common annual Children Sport Festival. Main mission of the project represents development of international - education relations through sport. The Festival took place in the Children´s Sport Stadium at Alejova street in Kosice and dealt with traveling around Europe without borders. Particular competitions corresponded to various EU countries. Total 100 children participated on the Festival, they "traveled" in ten mixed teams consisting of youngest students of the Gymnasium and students attending a special school Vysne Opatske. The event was organized under support of USSK.
The State Philharmonics Kosice thanks
The Kosice´s Musical Spring (KHJ) is inherently associated with company U. S. Steel Kosice that has been supporting the event for a few years. In the name of the Festival Board of the 52nd annual KHJ 2007 as well as in his own name, Director of The State Philharmonics Kosice Julius Klein thanked to the company President David H. Lohr for partnership and assistance. As he stated in the letter, responses to the Festival were extraordinary. It is a unique event of European importance and thanks to USSK, The State Philharmonics Kosice left favorable impressions and memories both in Kosice and whole region.
The Institute of Sport Medicine
Hospital Nemocnica Kosice-Saca, a.s., the 1st Private Hospital whose patients are mostly USSK employees, intends to establish a new Institute of Sport Medicine in the near future. According to the hospital director Juraj Vancik, the hospital has an excellent orthopedic department and experienced very good results at healing injuries not only at active sportsmen. People´s life style has changed, many people began to care more about their bodies even in older age. This brings problems. Therefore, the hospital will provide subsequent rehabilitation along with arthroscopy diagnostics - medicare focused on entire process from injury occurrence up to patient´s healing process.
HC Kosice ice-hockey players already on the Ice Rink
After three-week vacation, HC Kosice ice-hockey players met on the Steel Arena Ice Rink at their first training. Coaches Jan Sterbak and Anton Tomko informed the players on schedule of the first initial training unit. There are 28 players in the team plus three goalkeepers. Headcount is not complete yet because of significant movement within the team. The players will have training on Ice Rink and outside and play preparation matches - total 11 matches, hereof three at the tournament Rono Cup in Trencin. The first preparation match will be played this Friday on the domestic Ice Rink against Spisska Nova Ves. Along with this match, the players will play 4 more matches at 5:00 p.m. in the Steel Arena as a part of the preparation process. On Friday, Aug 03, they will play against Lipovsky Mikulas, on Tuesday, Aug 14 against Polish team Nowy Targ, on Tuesday, Aug 21 against the beginner from MHK Kezmarok and on Tuesday, Aug 28 against Hungarian 1st League team Szekesfehervar.
