Lunik IX pupils work safely in vocational lessons

Last week U. S. Steel Kosice President David H. Lohr and newly-elected Mayor of Kosice Frantisek Knapik together officially opened a new workshop for vocational lessons at the Podjavorinska Elementary School in the Lunik IX neighborhood in Kosice. David Lohr presented the puppils with 10 accumulator power drills and 30 pairs of eye defenders. School Principal Viera Sotterova thanks to financial support from U. S. Steel Kosice the school has been able to purchase working materials and tools - soft and hard wood, colored plastic, screwdrivers, hand-saws and hand-drills.
Since safety is first priority for the Company, in addition to the eye defenders, U. S. Steel Kosice has also provided the pupils with protective clothing - 150 workcoats mainly for use by the boys, and 170 aprons with headscarves for the girls to use in their Cookery lessons. The coats and aprons were made by the Romany clothesmakers' workshop in Druzstevna pri Hornade, which was set up in 2004 and had its premises renovated in 2005, both with the support of U. S. Steel Kosice.

CONECO - RACIOENERGIA - CLIMATHERM

The second trade fair attended this year by U. S. Steel Kosice presenting its radiators was the 16th edition of the annual international fair focusing on heating efficiency and rationalized use of energy RACIOENERGIA 2006. This event, the most important opportunity for presenting KORAD radiators on the Slovakian market, took place in Bratislava from April 4th to 8th, combined with the international construction fair CONECO and the CLIMATHERM exhibition. The fair met with great public interest, and in its four-day duration it was visited by more than 180 000 people.

Another foreign investor is moving in

Another foreign company has had the door to Eastern Slovakia opened for it by U. S. Steel Kosice's Economic Development Center, making it the third this year deciding to invest here, and the eighteenth since the Center was set up. The Redaelli group is coming to Kosice, one of the leading Italian manufacturers of steel wires and cables.
One of its divisions is Redaelli Sodetal, which was founded in France almost forty years ago, and which has succeeded during its existence so far in building up a worldwide reputation for developing and producing steel cords used for the primary reinforcement of radial tires. Its biggest customers include such renowned American and European tire-makers as Continental, Michelin, Goodyear or Dunlop. At its Kosice plant, the new subsidiary, Redaelli Sodetal Slovakia s.r.o., will be making steel cords for private car and goods vehicle tires. The company plans to start production as soon as September this year, initially employing 120 people, but this number could rise with expanding production.

USSK bowling championships

On April 22nd and 23rd the Bowling Pub at no.1 KVP Drive is the venue for the second edition of the annual U. S. Steel Kosice bowling championships. The first events on Saturday will be the men's and women's team competitions in two rounds, whereby the results attained by individual team members will also count towards the individual competition. Saturday will also see the prize-giving for the team competitions and for the individual women's event. The championships then continue on Sunday with the individual men's event, with 36 players going forward into the final rounds.
