SR President at U. S. Steel Kosice

Part of the working visit by the President of the Slovak Republic Ivan Gasparovic to Kosice on Friday, November 26th was a stop at U. S. Steel Kosice. This was his first official visit to the steelmaking company since taking office as President of Slovakia, and he visited the firm together with his wife.
The guests were welcomed outside the head office building shortly after 4 pm by U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta. After this welcome the SR President's first tour led around some of the works' production plants. He looked over the new installations at the Cold Strip Mill and the Finishing Plant. After the works tour he had a meeting with the Company's top management, who informed him about the commercial and environmental activities of the Kosice steelmakers. The President appreciated the stable employment level and capital investment development of the Company.
The President's wife Silvia Gasparovicova spent part of the afternoon's program separately, accompanied by Phyllis Navetta, wife of the U. S. Steel Kosice President. They looked round the USSK Gallery in the Public Access Area, and together discussed the Company's activities in the social sphere. The topics of the discussion were support for children's homes, the U. S. Steel Kosice grant program and charity activities.

Charity concert in Kosice

The House of Art in Kosice was the venue on Saturday, November 27th for a charity concert named Autumn Harmony, held under the auspices of SR Minister of Culture Rudolf Chmel and organized with generous assistance from the sponsors, the 1st Lions Club in Kosice. Another principal sponsor of the event was U. S. Steel Kosice, and the audience included U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta with his wife Phyllis and other members of the Company's top management.
The box-office proceeds together with other financial gifts were divided among three recipients. A financial gift of 20 000 SKK was presented to unsighted student Dusana Blaskova from Kosice, now studying in the first year at the Philosophical Faculty, Comenius University in Bratislava. A check for 40 000 SKK will bring pleasure to the students of the Roma Grammar School on Galakticka Street in Kosice. And the secondary vocational boarding school for visually-impaired students in Levoca received a gift of 60 000 SKK.

Kosice Grand Prix in figure-skating

Last weekend the Kosice Grand Prix figure-skating competition was held in Kosice. The 36-year history of this event was celebrated with pirouettes on the ice by 43 figure-skaters from four countries. The principal sponsor of the competition was U. S. Steel Kosice, and it naturally featured the elite of Slovak figure-skaters. The organizing club Kraso Centrum Kosice gained two first places in the junior categories, and two bronze medals in the junior category also went to Kosice skaters.

KOSICE CHRISTMAS set to begin

On Sunday, December 5th the grand illumination of the downtown decorations will set off the KOSICE CHRISTMAS festivities. The day's events will be opened at 5 pm on the stage by the Immaculata monument by the Mayor of Kosice Zdenko Trebula and U. S. Steel Kosice President Christopher Navetta. A large number of attractive performances have been prepared for the people of Kosice. Of course St.Nicholas will be coming too, with his essential sack full of candy gifts. The climax of the evening will be a fireworks display. The St.Nicholas Day program and KOSICE CHRISTMAS 2004 are financially supported by U. S. Steel Kosice.
