It took five years of waiting for the Energetika/Ferroenergy players to be able once again to lift the traveling trophy, the U. S. Steel Košice President's Cup above their heads for their victory in the tournament to find the steelworks' soccer champions. This year the power generation team clearly wanted to make up for their recent dearth of medals, and with a series of good performances in the course of the tournament they ultimately battled their way right through to the final, where the Steel Plants team awaited them. From beginning to end the closing match was fought with vigor worthy of a true final. There were chances for one side and the other in turn, but after 60 minutes of play the score was still 0:0. So now the match had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out. This time fortune favored the challengers from Power Engineering, and they beat their Steel Plants rivals 4:3 on penalties, winning both the Cup and the gold medals. The final game itself was preceded by the match for third place, which likewise ended in penalties and a win for the Transport Division players over the Management team.
