U. S. Steel Košice Safety Champion for the month of April is the head of the Packaging and Services Unit of USSK subsidiary Obalservis, Peter Kolesár. He received this award for his initiative in identifying and drawing attention to risks within the operation he has been put in charge of, and it was presented to him by USSK Vice president Subsidiaries and Services Elena Petrášková and General Manager Safety and Hygiene and REACH Mark Salo. Peter Kolesár has worked at the Košice steelworks since 1990. He has held various positions, and as a result he is very good at assessing potential threats and pre-empting them. He has several important projects to his credit which continue to help all of his colleagues with regard to occupational safety. 

“There are risks practically everywhere in our factory, both outside and inside,” Peter Kolesár pointed out in his acceptance speech. “Here at Obalservis we work in conditions with mobile equipment all around us, and in particular we work with steel sheet, which in itself involves certain risks. We concentrate above all on ensuring that our colleagues who work on packaging either directly or indirectly do not suffer any injuries due to cutting or crushing. They must not be threatened by any mobile equipment moving around them, and they must have the safest possible conditions for their work, so that no undesirable incidents or events can occur,” he concluded.
