More than 23 liters of blood was donated during the Steelmakers Drop of Blood donor drive. A wooden summer camp was built at Košice Zoo and the bears’ enclosure was cleared of overgrown trees. An outdoor fitness equipment set was made ready for use on the educational trail in the forest park and railings were painted by the pond located in the University Botanical Gardens.
Pavements to the sensory garden and the gazebo situated in the Centre for Children and Families on Hurbanova Street were completed. This however is only part of work that the volunteers from U. S. Steel Košice managed to do during the Steelmakers for Košice 2021 event. We should also mention the support in the form of summer clothes and other useful things for several facilities of the Archdiocesan Charity in Košice. The spirit of the event “voluntary aid enriches” could be perceived everywhere.
USSK President Jim Bruno visited all three spots on Saturday. The employees volunteering there came together with their families and people from partner organizations. “It is important for big companies to give back and support the communities in which they live and work. It is so rewarding to see how many of our employees have joined in, volunteered their time and done a lot of work. This is a very nice gesture,” said Jim Bruno, acknowledging the employees´ approach.
Special thanks go to those employees who took part on Friday and Saturday as well, namely: František Demjan, Marián Kušnirák, Marián Lipnický, Michal Tančák, Peter Tulenko, Ladislav Vaštag and Štefan Vojtko. First they donated blood, which helps during surgical operations and saves lives, and then the following day they also joined in improving facilities that provide services for the children, inhabitants and visitors of Košice.
