What is the role of ethics today?
Author: Redakcia
More than 500 employees joined in a companywide event featuring members of top management discussing the important role ethics plays in business. Basically, we resolve ethical dilemmas every single day. We wonder whether we have treated others with trust and respect, and whether we act lawfully, honestly and fairly. Our daily actions express our ethical approach. The Women’s Inclusion Network (WIN) Employee Resource Group (ERG) held an event on May 20 to discuss the importance of ethical business conduct and “doing what’s right” at U. S. Steel. The event was organized by WIN’s Košice chapter under the direction of Elena Petrášková, USSK Vice President Subsidiaries and General Counsel. According to Elena, the pandemic has changed our lives. “WIN wanted to explore whether the role of ethics has changed in today´s environment. We discussed this topic thoroughly in Košice, and together we agreed that ethical conduct and the integrity of our thinking and behavior are the fundamental pillars of our success.” In his remarks, David Burritt, USS President & CEO, noted that the last two years have been unprecedented for the Corporation. “Wherever you are, you have to obey the rules,” Dave said. “I learned this lesson from my father. At U. S. Steel we are fortunate to have a strong Code of Conduct and the S.T.E.E.L Principles to guide us. I am optimistic about the future. Conditions are good for the steel industry, but to maintain these favorable conditions sustainably, we need to focus on safety, an inclusive environment, respect and fair conduct with our employees.” From USSK President Jim Bruno’s point of view, ethics is something that must be encoded in us as a natural thing. “No matter what we do, we must not lose our strong moral compass,” Jim said.
