The opening ceremony of the traditional ice-hockey tournament taking place in the Steel Arena on January 7 this year starts off the 23rd edition of the annual Winter Sports Games for U. S. Steel Košice employees. The Games continue with the cross-country ski races up at Kojšovská hoľa (Kojšov Fell) on Saturday, February 2, and culminate with the giant slalom and snowboarding competitions up at Jahodná (Strawberry Hill) on the following Saturday, February 9. This will also be the venue for the 19th edition of the yearly Children's Carneval, where the fun will be starting at 10 am.

Meanwhile the ice-hockey tournament itself goes on until the end of February. This year sees the 52nd edition of this popular competition, with twelve teams forming two starting groups: Group A with the Finishing, Production Support, Radiators and Pipes, Blast Furnaces, Steel Plants and Hot Rolling Mill teams, and Group B with the Primary, Maintenance, IT, Power Engineering, Transport and Management teams.
