Tricky Words in this week‘s OVI
To solve. I would put my hand in a fire of green kryptonite and still maintain that this verb translates into Slovak as vyriešiť. If you solve a problem, that's the end of it, the problem is eliminated. Students of math and physics know how it feels when they solve a problem in their exercises. More complex problems with no single objective solution need to be resolved. Riešiť in contrast indicates a process which can be analyzed into several stages. First we look at or look into a problem. Then we talk about or discuss it. Then we get down to working on it. Later we can say that we're dealing with it, which could be pretty close to solving the problem, but still doesn't mean that it's solved (vyriešený).
